    Nintendo Switch

There's a dedicated Animal Crossing thread linked below, chaps :) viewtopic.php?f=22&t=1465576 I only had a very brief flirtation with it on 3DS many years ago but my wife and daughter love it. Faced with schools being closed and having the latter at home, I buckled and downloaded it for her...

    2020 Consoles Pre-release Thread

I don't pretend to understand all the technical nuances but my immediate take-away was that they're similar enough in terms of general performance to mean that it's probably unlikely that either will dislodge someone who is already established in the other's ecosystem. I had Xbox and PS2, 360...

Animal Crossing: New Horizons - Doing Virtual Chores to Pay Virtual Debts

This was certainly the way around it in the 3DS version and I had been wondering whether it would be the same with the Switch (assuming that it would). I guess you would need to disconnect it from the network first though.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons review: A quarantined life has never been cuter

It goes beyond merely needing a second copy of the game: "Each new island requires buying an additional copy of the game and an additional Switch, due to how Nintendo has structured AC:NH's save files."

Gaming thoughts, bite-size chewables - new orange flavor!

I seem to remember seeing this asked on another thread a while back and the consensus was it wasn't needed - there's a "decision generator" to determine what choices carry over, or you can pick from pre-sets, I think. Whether it's recommended, I don't know.

    The Last of Us

Keeping it short and focused will be the key. There are plenty of other tales that could be told in the same world, but it seems to me that it would be at risk of just turning into another The Walking Dead (which has long outstayed its welcome IMHO). Cautiously optimistic - though it will take...

Review: Jodie Whittaker’s Time Lord returns to classic Doctor Who form

You'll be pleased to hear then that Ryan and Graham will be leaving after the Christmas special (seemingly with the door left open for them to return from time to time, a la Captain Jack), which presumably leaves Yaz as the main companion. Though I suppose new "fam" might be introduced in the...

    Baldur's Gate 3

Yeah, I had assumed as much - which is what happened with both of the most recent Divinity games. There's no real argument about power once you're talking about Series X and PS5, but really only whether there's the commercial impetus to port it over. I don't know how well the Divinity games...

    Baldur's Gate 3

I was really disappointed to read recently that there's not likely to be a console release, at least on current generation anyway :(

Gaming thoughts, bite-size chewables - new orange flavor!

Hey, at least you made it past the first boss! Despite having completed all the Souls games plus Bloodborne, I just couldn't "get" Sekiro. I wanted to, so badly - but the whole parry thing just didn't gel for me. It's not even like I could resort to summoning, or over-levelling to give myself...

    Xbox One - Owners Thread

So, more details released about the Series X suggest that it will have twice the graphical oomph that the X1X has - 12 teraflops to the current 6. Informed speculation has it that the PS5 will be around 9. Developers will be "strongly encouraged" to opt in to what is in effect a cross-play...

Replay games at a harder difficulty

I don't generally replay games any more - too little gaming time and too much other stuff in the Pile of Shame. I made an exception for Witcher 3 though - it's one of the few games I cared enough about to want to complete all the achievements, which involved a Death March playthrough. No...

The Witcher’s Netflix success: How three timelines somehow became cohesive

There's enough lore in the Witcher world for them to take a bit more of a risk and have a game set in the same universe but featuring someone else in the lead role. I'd love to see Vesemir in the lead role, in a "flashback" to his heyday. Or maybe Eskel or Lambert - they're still witchers...

The Witcher’s Netflix success: How three timelines somehow became cohesive

In the books - which the series is explicitly based on - Triss isn't anywhere near as prominent as she is in the games. It seems that a section of game fandom is losing its collective shit about Triss (so far) having a minor role and - seemingly the bigger issue - not being a ginge. Blame that...

Forget Top Gun: Maverick—let’s settle Blue Thunder vs. Airwolf once and for all

Tangerine Dream, no less. You don't get much more 80s synth than that!

The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt- Killing monsters

And for any Xbox-ers who haven't already played it (if not, WHY NOT??!!?), it's now available on Game Pass.

    Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Played it, completed it, loved it. The one thing it's crying out for though is a fast-travel system - even if it only unlocked once you had beaten the game. Trying to navigate around Zeffo and Kashyyyk to find the remaining collectables is a right PITA, especially when the shortcuts cease...

Nope - console dealt with it exactly the same way.

    Borderlands 3

There's a free play weekend on for B3 on Xbox until the end of Sunday, with a discount in the Xbox Black Friday sale if you're impressed enough with it to want to buy it. I'd guess most people know by now though what they're likely to be getting!

Xbox Elite Controller 2 - Really Amazing

I keep seeing comments about how poor the build quality was with the Elite v1 but I've had mine for over three years now, used pretty much daily for an hour or two, and it's exactly as it was when new. Luck of the draw?
