Netflix’s $72B WB acquisition confounds the future of movie theaters, streaming

Well, there's at least one or two years of inflation before we get quite to THAT point!

Halloween film fest: 15 classic ghost stories

Ya know, as someone who is getting closer to dying, the movie https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Ghost_Story really kinda creeped me out.

Weapons of war are launching from Cape Canaveral for the first time since 1988

I'm not sure whats worse. At least with ICBM's (likely with a nuclear payload) launching from the USSR in the 80's we knew we had 40-45 minutes warning to at least bend over and kiss your ass goodbye. Now with hypersonic weapons we know about it until it strikes on target, lol.

Elon Musk recommends that the International Space Station be deorbited ASAP

Yup Musk could have brought them back by now, but NO, gotta let Boeing milk the .gov tit

After 50 years, Ars staffers pick their favorite Saturday Night Live sketches

The last "funny" skit I think Ive seen from SNL was TacoTown commercial spoof from the lonely island boys. Every episode Ive watched since the late 90's/2000's going forward has been kinda lame, which admittedly hasnt been very many from them. The "Golden age" was the 70's/80's.

US Copyright Office “frees the McFlurry,” allowing repair of ice cream machines

Wait are these ice cream machines actually are hooked up to the internet and have Trusted Platform Modules?!?! Just give me the days when they made a chocolate malt or shake in a blender. :/

Hurricane Milton becomes second-fastest storm to reach Category 5 status

Hears to hoping some of the forecasters on TV and the internet are correct in that intense wind shear in the atmosphere knocks it down a few notches as it approaches the Fla. coast. Its still gonna make a mess though. :/

Roll for insight: Using Dungeons & Dragons as a group therapy tool

Isn't this why most us "Nerds/geeks/social outcasts" played D&D back in the 80's to begin with?

Boeing will try to fly its troubled Starliner capsule back to Earth next week

This made me interested enough to google for it, even if its just general NASA astronaut pay. Unsurprisingly looks like they are just paid on the civilian GS pay scale: https://spaceimpulse.com And it is on the top end of it. (Wanna say highest is GS-15, but going off memory didnt bother...

CrowdStrike fixes start at “reboot up to 15 times” and get more complex from there

Great, unless you have company required bitlocker or winmagic or other drive encryption across all your servers and have to put in the 64 character security key across 500+ servers.

China has completed another impressive robotic mission to the Moon

All I have to go by is the on pic in this article and I dont see it referenced in the article itself, but is there info they cracked it open at the landing site or hauled the whole thing off to a facility before opening it?

The rent is too dang high in Cities: Skylines 2, so the devs nuked the landlords

Same with me. On surface the building/zoning part I enjoyed, but I started trying to follow some road guides on youtube step by step and was kinda fun at first to build a coherent road network with arterials, feeders, collectors and all that jazz, but after fighting the controls for hours trying...

Broadcom execs say VMware price, subscription complaints are unwarranted

We're what I would consider a "small/Medium" shop, 400-500 servers spread across 3-4 clusters (the biggest one 18 prod esxi hosts) and this hit us like a sledgehammer. We got bought by a bigger company (more like 10,000 server environment) and even they are like "We're actually going to explore...

Finally, engineers have a clue that could help them save Voyager 1

Hell I think they made a whole motion picture about it! :D That said: I was going to ask this exact question, thanks.

Roar of cicadas was so loud, it was picked up by fiber-optic cables

Ugh, I have a bug phobia and that pic TRIGGERED me, lol. Especially the periodic cicadas (like in the pic above) I have a couple big trees and just opening the door to my house during one of the big broods is an anxiety causing event (I can literally have about half a dozen fall on me). My house...

I wanted to post something, but the first few comments beat me to it. I am not disappointed. Happy Turkey day ARSians.

Rebuilt Microsoft Teams app promises twice the speed and half the RAM usage

I mean I appreciate all the features teams has with whatever our E5 license costs (ALOT) but I've enjoyed our underground slack chat far more. :/ Our slack is gonna probably be killed by ITSecurity eventually though. Just weird issues with teams, posting images/videos/ect.

Big pharma companies agree to federal price negotiations “under protest”

I find it interesting in the article, unless Im missing it, there isnt a single explanation from the quoted companies as to a "justification." for their prices? I mean it's like they might as well come out and say the reason is "because its what the market can bear".
