I have a home network, and when I shut down my main computer, it usually states that I am sharing my computer with 1 other user (the other PC on my network) and asks if I want to continue. Today it said I was sharing with 2 other users... I only have one other computer on the network (plus a router) and it only used to say 1 other user. I shut down the other computer, and now it says I have one other user...

Now the question. Is there a way to find out who the "sharers" are, from the "sharee"? Either by IP address or network name?

If your computer is somehow accessible from the Internet, the obvious culprit is some h4x0r trying to leech your pr0n and you should turn off Windows file sharing no matter who is trying to access you. If not, my suspicion would be a) the other guy on your network, and b) yourself. Windows likes to keep connections open for as long as possible, long after it's needed. Typically you can just ignore the messages.

Since you have a home network, you might take advantage of the file sharing. I know I do. there are 2 alternatives, besides just turning it off:
1)unbind file sharing from the TCP/IP protocol. right click on Network neighborhood, then click properties. you should be at the Network properties. click on whichever device you use to access the net (either your modem or the NIC that is attached to your broadband device) then click bindings, and UNCHECK "windows files sharing". that should solve it.
2) get a firewall. there are many cheap software based firewalls for personal use, check out Conseal firewall,Here, or what i use, Black Ice Defender, Here

Alternative firewall: Zonealarm from www.zonelabs.com.

Not the most tweakable piece of software in the world, but it appears to do a good job against port scanners and the like.

Oh, yeah, and it's free. Always a bonus. :D

It might not be the best solution for you if you're interested in a lot of logging information and so on...Black Ice does a much better job of that sort of thing.
