Windows 11 power management is garbage

I finally got a per circuit whole house power monitor to see what we use energy on, and it is really useful to track how dumb Windows 11 power management is. Last night for example:

Got to get that Windows Defender definition update installed at 12:30, and better leave the PC awake all night just to be safe! I realize Windows is a legacy product that Microslop is trying to extract money from while investing as little as they can, but the way they default to aggressively wasting power like this on millions of PCs while power rates are spiking is so dumb.

Weird. My Windows 11 Pro 25H2 install slept through the entire night. Not very helpful, I know.

Probably should have checked my laptop bag sooner:

On the upside, even if Windows is too stupid not to boot up the laptop in its insulated travel case, the emergency thermal protection means I only lost 25% of the battery charge.

It's insane that Microsoft still has not fixed that kind of thing. Just insane. There have been articles written about it and they have said, "Yes, we know it happens and we know why and we're fixing it." Even, "OK, we fixed it."

It still happens.

If I shut my computer off (not hibernate, not sleep) it should never turn itself back on.

If I put it to sleep, or hibernate, it should never turn itself back on unless I tell it to do so. It can finish its update at that time if necessary. If they have vulnerabilities that make it a target for something while it is asleep, then fix those and make the sleep status more secure.
