Strange Jigsaws does something I wish more games would do. On the game's official website is a full codex of hints for every puzzle with progressive disclosure, so you can spoil as much or as little as you want, and you don't have to enter the cursed negaverse of the guidemongers.

I only needed a small handful of hints. What a fun and unique little puzzle game, which despite its name, involves almost no actual jigsaw puzzles. $5 for 5 hours, short and sweet.

The best thing about multiplayer games is the other players.
The worst thing about multiplayer games is also the other players.
I used to play a lot of TF2. I would play with comms silenced. My team was a band of brothers, fighting together in a whimsical battle world, backing each other up, fighting hard towards a gripping victory. Or a sad defeat.

Comms on, it was all lollmoggcringemaxxing you useless $%#@. ASL.
With occasional Bananaphone on repeat.

Holy Christ that boss battle. I finally beat it after farming Exp and getting a new Qi skill... Bow-spam into Qi Blast for a replacement arrow is the way to go with Fuxi and Nuwa in Nine Sols in case anyone else is thinking about picking it up. You have 0 time to do the 5-charge Qi Blast and the Water Seal doesn't do enough damage. Plus Azure Bow stops enemy attacks so that helps when you take out an entire whole half of the fight.

ETA: I was trapped in that spot for a whole week. I'm not happy I beat them. I'm just fucking finally done with it and can move on. I don't feel like I accomplished anything.

I can’t remember if it was before or after them when I turned on all of the accessibility things, took enemy damage down to nothing and maxed my own. Because the game definitely reached a point where I was thinking, “Yeah, I’m done with this.”

Ended up doing that for the last boss. Oh yea - I beat the game... I was trapped on those two for so long. They were literally the last wall.

In what way?

The added too much shit. The base game was a very fun and balanced game. 9 classes was enough to provide a wide range of strategies, but still keep things simple and enjoyable. With every class-update, they introduced a ton of complexity into the game that only detracted from gameplay. Classes were already effectively "loadouts". Having many loadouts within a class was just too far IMO.

I dont recall if it was part of the class updates or just around the same time, but they introduced achievements. Suddenly half of the servers you joined were no longer hosting actual games, but achievement farming. Heavies just standing around poking each other, etc.

Then not too long after that it just devolved into fucking hat fortress which is just garbage. Then F2P, bots, etc.

Peak TF2 was in early 2008 before class updates began. The Valve levels and additional gameplay types were always welcome (and did not change the base game).

I'm obviously still sour about this. I hate when a developer releases a free update to a game and ruins already existing content.

Also looking at you, Futuremark

If you have any nostalgia for Fallout 1-2, Atom War and its Trudograd sequel are both fun more modern isometric turn-based games.

They are more like FO2 than Wasteland 2, and the combat feels better than WL2 did for me. Lots of guns. Trudograd even has Power Armor that you can get mid-game.

I posted some tips for the first one here and will add some for Trudograd later - https://meincmagazine.com/civis/threa...ones-stick-with-the-new.1511840/post-44426970

So, apparently the OG Thief is getting a remaster.

I feel.. Mixed about this.

The original is iconic, yes, but it's also pretty well-aged at this point, and I don't feel like a remaster is appropriate aside from trying to capture a bit more of us older folks' money.

I'd rather them try - again - to do a modern Thief game, with modern sensibilities, than remaster the first. I have zero desire to replay the original, which I frequently ended up getting frustrated with due to it's unforgiving nature.

The original Hitman games are getting a remaster, too:

And those I'm really unsure about, too. Like ... yeah, Codename 47 was kind of impressive, back in 2000, but even then it was kludgy as fuck. Silent Assassin was cool enough, but, again, it has all the jank that you would expect from a 2002 game. And Contracts was ... just kinda weird. So that's a remaster that I feel is going to be a cute novelty for fifteen minutes and then everyone's going to remember why the series was dormant until 2016.

Speaking of titles from around 2000

oh hell yes

Per the Steam page:

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

At SEGA Corporation, we utilize generative AI as a support tool for developers, aiming to provide better content to our users and enable developers to focus more on creative tasks.

We have used such generative AI support tools during development of Crazy Taxi: World Tour. No AI was used in reference to the performers in the game.

The way that’s written, Sega is telling it’s dev teams to use Gen AI. So assume that is true for all of their games going forward.

You're leaving out Blood Money, which was practically good enough to erase the existence of the original trilogy by the jump in quality. Which was then followed up with 2012's Absolution, which was the real reason the series lapsed into a coma for several years.

But yeah, remastering the original trilogy feels pretty redundant. Anyone used to the World of Assassination is going to find the old mechanics archaic and obtuse, and if they're just going to port the old games to the new engine they could have just made the levels DLC for the latest game. The only game that really holds up from the OT is Silent Assassin, and even then at this point it's more of a museum piece on primitive social stealth than an enjoyable experience.

Nine Sols has been kicking my ass, repeatedly. Fuxi and Nuwa boss. Over and over again, I've probably spent an hour on this stupid boss. First Phase is easy I can beat it without even taking damage. Second Phase you make one mistake and you're just done.
IIRC, there is a glitch that speedrunners use that locks Fuxi in a passive state so they can wail on him in one or both phases. If you're dead stuck, try to trigger that glitch until it works.

EDIT: Not sure if you have to downpatch to get it to work. I have no idea if they ever patched it, since it wasn't easy to trigger in the first place.

I'm not sure I'm ready to go through the mines & the cathedral again, even after nearly 30 years. :\

Really been enjoying Songs of Syx lately. It's kind of like Dwarf Fortress. Still in early access but damn if I haven't put a hundred hours into it already in a rather short time. I've built a pretty nice sized city and have some powerful nobles. Unfortunately my governor, Lordomighty Whiskey, just passed away. I had high hopes for him. 😪

You mentioned that it was still in Early Access, but didn't mention that the 1.0 launch date is only a week away. ;)

Edit: Okay, their messaging is confusing. They have a major update next week, but the 1.0 launch is still some nebulous time in the future, planned to be before the end of the year.

Nah, that's just the next version of EA. They are estimating 1.0 by end of year.... they hope, according to their post about it on March 19th.

But it's still very feature complete as is and well worth some time.

A Thief game with modern sensibilities is called Dishonoured.

Except Arkane got strangled to death by the content mill. So we can't have more of those either.
