+1 to DOOM here too. Been nice training for the new mouse I picked up earlier in the spring.

Is your mouse a Razer? Mine is, and with DOOM it changes the lighting colour depending on my health. Totally unnecessary, but I thought it was pretty funny. I guess if I had a Razer keyboard it would do the same....

Yes.

All of that is configurable, though their management app is a bit... obtuse.

On a very different note (and I realize I'm a year late on this), I finished playing Butterfly Soup: https://brianna-lei.itch.io/butterfly-soup

It's a "pay what you want" visual novel about a bunch of teens who play baseball. The humour can be puerile (they're teens), but it made me laugh out loud multiple times. I think anyone who enoyed Life is Strange will like this too.

Yeah, I have the Death Adder. Haven't noticed the health changing color, but I do know it goes into Rave mode while the game is loading.

Any Dragon Quest 11 love here? I picked it up yesterday and only have an hour in it, but I'm really enjoying it so far. The graphics are really incredible, the music is great as always, and the combat hasn't really changed in 30 years.
I am a HUGE DQ (previously DW) fan. I am holding off on it for now only because my backlog is so big. Maybe I will try and pick it up around Christmas/New Years, but I am very stoked for it and all the good things I keep hearing about it!

Yeah, I enjoy the loading rave mode as well. It's a good mouse. Can't say I'm a fan of having to have an online profile for my mouse software, but this is the way of the future I suppose.

I was bored the other night and decided to boot up D3, and created a new seasonal character. Great way to burn two hours.

I miss Marvel Heroes. :(
Is Marvel Heroes gone?

I thought I saw a name change, Omega or something a while back. I played at the beginning, I just thought omega was like an expansion or something.

The corporation went under. How they managed to do that with a steady funding of Marvel fan money is beyond me.

Yeah, I read the wiki on it. Crazy how they just dropped the ball with Disney backing them..

On another note, reading the wiki of our it started and stuff got me reading about Cryptic Studios, which led to Champions Online. Which apparently is still a thing, so I may go try and see if its any good still. I played right after release for a while, but kinda lost interest. Nothing can scratch that City Of Heroes itch yet...

I was somewhere near the 30 character mark, myself.

As for City of Heroes, not a week goes by that I don't think about one of the scenes from that game, or run into a discussion about it, or a friend brings it up...

For a dead game, it really drives a lot of unsatisfied fandom desire. I'm amazed that the CoH-imitators haven't managed to get their shit together yet. At this point, something that only mimicked CoH would be too dated to be usable.

Not sure if you're on reddit, but there are some on the r/cityofheroes page that are close, apparently.

I follow that subreddit just for nostalgia. I had 3 accounts, 30+ max level characters across 4 servers. My main character had about 2500 hours on him alone. I miss it.

Thanks. I'll try to remember to check that when I get home. I'm still relatively new to the Reddit scene; I avoided it for ages. So I don't tend to think of checking it for information I can't find easily elsewhere.

As for the idea of a CoH successor being close to completion - until I see it, and can play it myself, I'll continue to assume that it's just a Nemesis plot. :devious:

Edit: I did try one of the supposed successors - Valiant, I think? - in its pre-alpha state, and it brought my video card close to a nuclear meltdown. I have a better video card now, but still... =>_<=

Edit2: And while taking a peek at /r/cityofheroes/ on company time, I just discovered that Wildstar has entered its final stages, and will be shut down before the end of the year. =>_<=

I need to get a copy of their original trailer. So much character in the characters and the world.

I fired it up myself recently and I don't know if I'm just getting old but I died in the first big room playing on normal ("Hurt Me Plenty" in DOOM-speak). Any pointers? Should I switch to shotgun for the baddies hanging off the columns that I can't melee?

FWIW I tried Champions Online recently and the main difference is a ton of kits are paywalled since the game went F2P. That said, almost nothing has changed about the early parts of the game, that I've seen. For better or worse.

Champs Online has its charms, and character creation is fun, but yeah... the game has changed very, very little over the years beyond them adding new vanity stuff to waste money on.

Shotgun helps. Never forget to just run in and pop some skulls when enemies are glowing. Even if you don't need the health right now, they'll stick around for at least a little while (can't recall if they despawn or not). Imps are crazy mobile so early on you're going to have your hands full just learning how to read their movements. Later you'll have some better weapons to deal with them and be familiar enough with their movements that they won't cause you much problem.

Early on the pistol charged shot is very helpful. Plus the enemies spawn based on location not time so you can take *your* time and snipe with the pistol to whittle things down, then go in guns or fists blazing.

In retrospect, playing in VR during a thunderstorm may not have been the brightest idea. No, nothing went zap, no magic smoke came out, etc, although now that I think about it, those were possibilities. Pretty sure there's a surge protector there, but still.

No, every time lightning struck, I would lose tracking and the whole (virtual) world would fade to a featureless grey. Then as the thunder started a few seconds later, tracking would pick up and I could re-orient myself and resume play. A few times it happened at inopportune moments, and I nearly fell.

Since I couldn't actually see the lightning, it took me entirely too long to figure out what was happening.

I haven't decided if I want to get it on the PS4 or PC. Now Spiderman has me sucked in so I'll wait till I finish that to pick it up.

Watching the extended game play video about Rebel Galaxy Outlaw. Some of you may remember that I was stupidly stoked about the original Rebel Galaxy, mostly about it's soundtrack.

This game, from what I've seen and read, looks MUCH different. Think Wing Commander: Privateer.

The first one was more capital-ship (or at least corvette-sized) play, right? I like the more fighter-y feel of at least the first gameplay trailer. I've got House of the Dying Sun sitting in my backlog (tried playing the first mission and had no idea how to effectively fight, I'm gonna need more practice) but more Wing Commander-style games is definitely a good thing.

Yeah, first game was capital ships. I like it, but I've been yearning for a good space sim that wasn't Elite for a while. Plus, they are saying full HOTAS support.

I liked the idea of Rebel Galaxy a lot, and then when I finally got it on sale, I only played it for a couple of hours because the 2D combat in space turned me off. More like playing battleships on the high seas than space combat. I liked the universe and concept, so hopefully this will deliver.
That's what got me 10 hours of it. The devs made it because they liked the execution of the ship combat in Assassin's Creed Black Flag so much they wanted to do something akin to that.

Yeah, that's what got me into it. I liked the naval combat in Black Flag, but disliked pretty much everything else about that game, and I'm also really into anything space-related, so Rebel Galaxy was a natural fit.
It had some flaws and could get a bit repetitive, but I enjoyed it overall.

At the same time, I'm also not too bothered that they're changing the core gameplay for Outlaw to something more traditional. As long as the devil still calls, I'm gonna ride that train. ;)

Which one of these would I get as a replacement (for use with Windows 10)? Amazon says the second one is newer, but it's listed under XBox 360.
The issue with the listing is that the photos are all over the place. The description is for the newer model, but some photos show the older, bigger dongle. Either way, there's no Xbox 360 controller bundle for Windows 10.

I wonder what's the reason for the sale. A new revision in the pipeline?

The first link is being sold by a third-party (J.F.J in California), but fulfilled by Amazon, so he's already put the items in the Amazon warehouse. The second is straight from Amazon, who got it direct from Microsoft. Chalex is right - those two are the same item. The cheaper one is also the safer bet; there's no question on which way to "jump."

My old XBox 360 controller has seen better days.

Best Buy also has Xbox One gamepads + adapter for the same cut, if you're out and about:

Also, I believe the latest Xbox One controllers have proper Bluetooth support so you could possibly buy one from that side of the aisle and use it without the adapter.

Price wise, that's functionally the equivalent to buying the $55 Amazon listing (which appears to not be sold by a 13 year old kid at the very least) but MSRP is $5 more expensive (unless it's on sale). I'd go with the cheaper of those two listings and you have a wireless adapter. You don't need it if you have BT on your PC but BT has some issues with the XBO controller (I can't recall specifics right now) but you've got it just in case. You can also use the controller wired by plugging it in with a USB cable.
