I'm kind of pleasantly surprised on performance. A little stutter here and there on rare occasion, but mostly frames in the 80s-90s with a 3060Ti at 1440p. Everything high, RT off, DLSS quality. The texture thing pissed me off in certain areas, but that's just UE4 being UE4 as discussed above. I've no idea how far I am in it, I just finished the big drop ship thingie. I think it's crashed... once, I want to say? Aside from the occasional "no, I wanted to wall run that way" thing it hasn't been buggy.
I've got a 3070 at 1440p, and I've had to turn a bunch of stuff down to Medium, DLSS on performance, and get a LOT of stuttering still. Apparently this game does WORSE on higher-end hardware, but I thought that was mostly tied to 40xx series cards.

Maybe streaming series, but intimately related to a game series...

The Hired Steel guys did a fantastic job on the animations given the short time frame. And the Bruin’s animation actually got a laugh out of me.

The Urby is fairly garbage in any game it is present in, but it’s got pluck. And a version that can lob nuclear warhead tipped missiles, so don’t laugh too hard at it.

The problem with video game appearances is that they cannot progress the way a BT tabletop campaign works. In TT, you may either get dropped in a scenario and told the mech/pilot or you may have to spool up a campaign with lore-accurate resources. The rules allow for the full chaos of urban warfare
Video games always give you a single lance and pit you against 2-3 lances with tonnage gradually going up from light to assault. Maps are most all-mechs with sometimes a smattering of non-walkers and fliers but rarely artillery and never infantry of any considerable threat...nor the scores of civilians who would be stuck. The urbie's conditions get lost in translation.

I think Dia said that RT absolutely murders it for effects that are little more than an irritation. Did you have it on? My CPU is no great powerhouse, just a 7600.

RT in Jedi Survivor does two things specifically: global illumination, and reflections, and none of that stuff is particularly in your face. The lighting differences tend to be subtle more often than not, because the game overlays the GI on top of pre-baked lighting. The reflections are also subtle but pretty neat though, I liked the small detail of seeing the lightsaber reflect off a shiny trashcan surface when I was doing random moves nearby.

I haven’t played in nearly a week - family stuff, christmas, you know how it goes - but I haven't run into any bugs or performance issues** with SW Jedi Survivor. And I’ve got north of 15 hours into the game?

I’ve got a few days off before I have to go back to work, and I’m back home. May get some time in tonight!

** Beyond the usual ‘late model UE4’ shenanigans, and even then it’s not nearly as egregious as some others.

Nope, turned off RT. Definitely didn't need it.
FWIW, I checked again and all my Jedi:Survivor settings are High or Ultra, excepting RT being off. I don't know why a 3070 would struggle at the same resolution that I'm on, excepting maybe you don't have enough CPU cores or aren't using DLSS? I grant that a 3070 is only slightly faster than my 3060Ti, but it is faster so... I dunno? It's not even eating all the VRAM, from what I can see, and it's using about 40% of 32GB of RAM so a 16GB machine should be fine. Sometimes these things are just a mystery.

I've got a i7-10870H; While it's not the 11th gen recommended, it's still no slouch. 32GB RAM, too.

What's also weird is the system map on the holotable has HORRIBLE performance; I'm talking 10FPS performance, and it looks like absolute trash.

So just noticed on GOG they are including completion estimates for games. The info is pulled from the howlongtobeat Web site. Very cool.

While not vital information, I do find that info interesting.
I always felt GOG was made by gamers for gamers. They go through all sorts of hoops to make sure the game plays great on your computer.

Steam is like a generic marketplace and they don't really give a shit of the game works or not

Built a new gaming box recently and happily picked up the Space game and the Cowboy game cheap on Steam. I'll get to the Cowboy game eventually I guess - the Space game is so far very, very good. Sure it has some quirks but I was a good few hours in before I found myself having my first conversation with someone who was standing on a table for no discernible reason.

I'm other words, you get to do it 4 more times. 😁 Time to git gud.

I think my save has 2 boss cells. Haven't quite had the kind of drops to get me to the next level.

For real though, that first win is a pretty big accomplishment.
I had to walk away from Dead Cells shortly after getting my 3rd boss cell. The first two opened up some new abilities and areas, but the third just made it hard.

I liked sitting down and starting a run, knowing I would just be doing that one. It might be 20 minutes, maybe 90. Once you can't heal anymore, that run may last two minutes before it's obviously a lost cause. So, I would find myself restarting five or six times and just getting annoyed.

I may go back and try to beat Dracula or find the giant with just one boss cell. I don't know if I have it in me to really try for a 4th boss cell, though.

Got Dredge for my bday (the 24th). It's pretty good. I just wish I'd known that playstation infrastructure still has "region" nonsense. Because some of my extended family just want an Amazon wish list for my bday list, I found a copy of Dredge listed on amazon, so that's the one. Turns out it's the PS4 UK version imported to the US. The box art says "upgradable to PS5". And it's the deluxe version. To upgrade to deluxe, there's a sheet of paper with a PSN code. So I enter the code and "this code not valid in your region".. :( Ok, let's try to get the PS5 edition at least. Go through the steps and they don't work. Do some digging and one of the tech sites has an * line in small letters: upgrading won't work across regions. :( :(

WTF? It's not like I bought some Eastern European version for $5. Does the right of first sale not apply to physical media? What about truth in advertising?

I'm really enjoying the game, but I'm still angry at Sony.

Even second Dracula? I've never been able to beat second Dracula.
I think there is a Hobbit Joke there but for video game bosses

Sounds like when I didn't realize that Hollow Knight had more than one encounter with Grimm. Lol guys its not any harder than most of the late game bosses. Oops

That boss fight took me maybe 4 hours to beat, much longer than the Radiance. I didn't do any of the super-absurd boss rush stuff, but Nightmare King Grimm is definitely the hardest boss I've fought in a Metroidvania. The second-to-last boss in Blasphemous 2 isn't too far behind.

It's interesting to me to see how different watching a fight on youtube vs playing the fight really is. Both of those bosses look pretty challenging when watching somebody else play, but actually playing them they are FUCKING HARD.

I think the two were very similar to me though at the time I fought Radiance I somehow failed to realize I had missed upgrading Howling Wraiths to Abyss Shriek. So, obviously, that particular strat didn't work for me but eventually I git gudded enough to beat her the hard way

And at 29.3 hours in, I have completed a run through Jedi Survivor. Eh.
Ready for some opinions?

Combat? Better balanced by far in this one. It did get monotonous as hell though. The story? Not as good as the first game. I think I called every single twist LONG before it happened, and it just wasn't nearly as compelling a narrative as the first game. Graphically? Stunning. And yeah, that's about as far as UE4 can be pushed before it just shatters. If they make another one, I'll play it, but honestly? I'm okay if they don't.

I didn't come even close to hundred percent, and I don't care to. And, immediately after completion? Uninstall, uninstall the EA App application.
And that completes my 52nd game of the year. Woo.

Up next? A few demos, then Art of Rally, which I got off free from EGS a few days ago.

Edit: Yeah. Art of Rally? Really not my game. I don't like the controls. At all. Glad I didn't pay for it, but even if I had I would be refunding this thing immediately.

So, last night I did all the Holotactics stuff in Jedi Survivor.

Pro-tip: Never underestimate the power of a single stormtrooper and a couple roller mines.

I'm feeling.. Bored.

I'll probably go ahead and NG+ Jedi Survivor soon just to enjoy my newfound power, but.. Man, winter game releases are pretty sad, and nothing is on sale anywhere I'm interested in either.

Checking the release calendar, nothing has been announced that I'm even interested in for the next few months.

I need help picking my next PS5 game. 3 games I want are on sale for about $30. Can you help me choose between Cyberpunk:2077, Hogwarts Legacy, and God Of War Ragnarok?

2 caveats:
1. I have a 7-year-old who likes to watch me play. He handled 2018's God Of War very well, but my wife thought it was too violent. If a game has too many decapitations, cussing, or boobs, I can only play it late at night.

2. I'm looking for an Arkham-like. Great story, lots of action, character progression and improvement. Something between the extremes of "min/maxing character stats is its own game" and "murder anything that moves"

Here are the 3 games I'm looking at.

1. Hogwart's Legacy. It's getting great reviews, and it's perfect for my son to watch. After reading the books with him, I'm a Harry Potter fan too.

2. Cyberpunk 2077. I love Cyberpunk settings. I played the tabletop RPG as a teenager. But if it has GTA levels of sex and violence, I'll barely be able to play it.

3. God Of War Ragnarok. The 2018 release is the only God Of War game I've played. It's one of my favorites ever. It wasn't as violent as I expected. Amazing action, but very few dismemberments, decapitations, etc. How's the 2022 release?

CP2077 is definitely not a game you want to play in front of a 7-year-old. The world is super sleazy and full of sex. I don't remember the violence as being that bad, but the world is just flat unsuitable. edit to add: I'd put the age limit there at probably 14-ish.

Probably, of the three you list, only Hogwarts is likely to be entirely acceptable.

If you haven't played them, Horizon Zero Dawn and (probably, I haven't played it yet) Horizon Forbidden West are likely to be a good time with a 7-year-old, although HZD is a story about an apocalypse and the end of the world. It can be a little dark, sometimes, but only barely brushes up against anything adult, and that's just one character musing about his porn collection, late in the game. Combat is nearly bloodless against humans, not graphic at all. You're either shooting arrows into them, and they take damage and eventually fall over, or beating them up with a stick, and they just take damage and eventually fall over. Unlike the Arkham games, they die, but the level of explicit violence is quite comparable.

Combat against robotic dinosaurs is the main focus, and there you're just knocking armor bits and weapons off them.

Eh, I'm at the point of "play it how you like." Find something interesting and give it a whirl. And if you prefer to spend your time getting mods set up and organized and not playing... Well, I'm not gonna gatekeep. :eng101:

I actually agree and I'm not looking for TC mods or anything, just the bug fixes/some graphics overhauls/etc. It's really a small pack but I didn't even realize there was an anniversary edition

Most of the kills made by the player using hacks or bullets are relatively "clean" but there are quite a few parts of the game depicting graphic violence, torture, etc. I definitely would put it at 18+

It has, at times, more sex than GTA, and actual nudity. Violence-wise, it has similar gameplay (lots of shooting fools), but it also has horror game levels of static gore (partially dismembered/gutted bodies as environmental decoration) at times as well.

It's also a dark, serious game plot-wise, which may be an issue depending on how attentive and aware your kid is.

In other words, as noted above, this is not a game for a 7-year-old. It earns its ESRB (Mature/17+) and PEGI (18) ratings.

Your wife was right. It’s PEGI 18 for a reason, that reason being “mind-boggling levels of visceral, gory, and pretty fuckin’ constant violence”.

2. Cyberpunk 2077. I love Cyberpunk settings. I played the tabletop RPG as a teenager. But if it has GTA levels of sex and violence, I'll barely be able to play it.

Not for kids. Full stop. It’s full of sex and drugs and murder.

See above.

At the end of the day you gotta parent your child in the way you see fit. But you asked, and GoW (both the 2018 release and Ragnarok) and CP2077 are totes inappropes for 7-year-old children , and both are PEGI 18 with good reason. They’re entertainment products for adults.

I have a 4 year old that likes to occasionally shoulder surf when I BG3. Suffice to say, what I do and where I go is carefully managed when she is watching. That said, she like the big boss fights, and she names all my characters after her friends and say they're the ones beating the bad guys. Thankfully, BG3 is pulled back enough that most of the hits are fairly abstract, and it's really the monsters themselves that can be scary.

Also, no long rests when the kiddo is around.

The bits I've been reading on Warhammer Rogue Trader make it sound like my kind of game, once a few more patches are out.

Then I visit the Epic Games store to check out the latest free game, and I notice I have a 33% off coupon because everyone gets one after you claim a free game.

Sold! By the time I'm done with BG3 it should be in a better state to play.
